Faulty electrical socket in AshfordNoticing electrical faults around the home can be difficult but if you do notice something different or that you are worried about, we always suggest contacting a local electrician to take a thorough look for you. Like most things, catching an electrical fault early usually means that it is not only safer but also cheaper to fix than if you left it and hoped for the best. If in doubt and you are local to Ashford, Canterbury, Sittingbourne, Faversham or Maidstone, we can help.

Unusual Sparks or Sounds

You know what noises your appliances and light switches make when you use them so if anything changes, it could be a sign of a cable, socket or appliance that has developed a fault. Sockets and cabling are usually pretty resilient and can last years, especially in homes where they are not used as much as perhaps they would be in an office however they can still fail over time. If something starts sparking, lights flicker or you notice an unusual smell, call an electrician.

Over Heating

If you notice that a socket or appliance is a lot warmer than you would expect it to be, again this could be an early sign of a fault within the equipment. Electrical sockets can quickly and easily be tested or replaced if necessary. Appliances can be PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) tested to determine whether they are safe to use. PAT testing isn't required in homes but if you are unsure, we can run the equipment through our system for you.
